Let it snow!

Technology Bloggers is now experiencing snow showers!

There are just 15 days to go before Christmas now, and I am a little behind on the old Christmas shopping – this one seems to have crept up rather quickly!

Trees in Lapland covered in snowTo get in the festive spirit, Technology Bloggers is now experiencing snow showers! Its winter (in the northern hemisphere at least) and in winter, it snows, therefore I thought it appropriate to let it snow on Technology Bloggers.

To create the snow, I am using a very clever little plugin called: Let it snow!

Let is snow! is a really easy to use and customise plugin. Just install the plugin via WordPress (or download it and then upload it to your site) and then click ‘Activate’. You then get snow on your blog, and it is that easy!

The plugin also creates a useful and really easy to use settings tab. Just look down the left hand side of your WordPress menu and find Let It Snow! There you can customise things like whether the snow follows the mouse, sticks to the bottom of the screen, how much snow their is, etc.

Why not give it a go on your own blog, its easy to do, and doesn’t actually appear to affect the performance of your site very much at all!

If anyone is experiencing lag (I am not) please don’t hesitate to contact me πŸ™‚

Merry Christmas everyone, stick with us for a fantastic future πŸ™‚

Firefox = Fine
Chrome = Fine
Safari = Fine
Opera = Fine
Internet Explorer = Not Working! BUT in compatibility mode, it seems to work fine…

I don’t like or use IE, so it doesn’t bother me πŸ™‚

For festive cheer, switch to a better browser πŸ™‚

You know it just looks cool and so unusual. In my area we don’t have any snow yet and I am looking forward to it and expecting that we are celebrating the holidays with some snow drifts.

Merry Christmas Christopher. This is a cool plugin. I was actually looking for something that could do the same.
I would love to use the plugin on my own blog, but I wonder though, how does it effect the speed of your site? It seems like its a little slowing down, but not sure.

As I said in the article “Why not give it a go on your own blog, its easy to do, and doesn’t actually appear to affect the performance of your site very much at all!” – personally, I can’t see a difference!
Looking forward to seeing it on your blog πŸ™‚

Peter mentioned that too Karin.

Thanks for the comment, welcome to the Technology Bloggers community Karin πŸ™‚

Well, I don’t know where to post this, so this thread will do, because I was “snowed under” as in overwhelmed [http://www.answers.com/topic/snow] when Christopher wrote to me: “Just a quick message to let you know that you are a nominee for one or more of Technology Bloggers 2011 community awards!”

Wow! I hadn’t done much for this blog, except to like it!

Then Christopher continued: “Check out the blog (or see this page http://www.technologybloggers.org/updates/technology-bloggers-community-awards/) on the 31st of December 2011 to see if you have won any of the awards you were up for nomination for :-)”

Oooops! No such page! I think “somebody” had been overdoing the Christmas spirit! πŸ™‚ (As in whiskey, vodka, gin, whatever!) πŸ˜‰

Anyway, hope you all had a Happy Christmas, and are heading to a Prosperous New year!

Best regards,

Goodwin A I Manson

Hi Goodwin πŸ™‚

First point, this sort of stuff should really come through the contact form, or via email – doesn’t matter this time πŸ˜‰

Secondly, well done for becoming a nominee!

Thirdly, if you read the email I sent you carefully you will see it says “Check out the blog (or see this page http://www.technologybloggers.org/updates/technology-bloggers-community-awards/) on the 31st of December 2011 to see if you have won any of the awards…” – it is not yet the 31st of December, therefore there is nothing about it on the blog, and the link is not live!

Don’t worry, Alan made the same mistake πŸ™‚

Thanks Goodwin, hope this helps πŸ™‚
